NEW DELHI: The Railways on Saturday suspended four persons, including the Allahabad divisional railway manager and senior divisional mechanical engineer, after the fourth accident in a fortnight.
The two drivers of the Kalandi Express have also been placed under suspension pending an inquiry into the Saturday's incident, a senior railway ministry official said. A three-member inquiry team has been rushed to the accident spot.
Three persons were killed and 17 injured when the Kalandi Express rammed into the stationary Shram Shakti Express in dense fog nearly Tundla. The two drivers of the Kalandi Express were also injured in the incident.
In the previous three incidents, all in UP on January 2, 10 persons were killed and 45 injured.
The railway official said revised safety guidelines have been issued after a review meeting was held by the chairman of the Railway Board, S S Khurana, here on Saturday.
As per the fresh guidelines, the driver has to stop the train for five minutes instead of two minutes at the red signal before driving at 8 km per hour speed in foggy conditions.
Commissioner, Railway Safety, P K Vajpayee, will conduct the probe into Saturday's accident and submit a report, North-Central Railway spokesperson R D Vajpai said.
